Everything that's been going on in the last 2 months here, summed up in a blog entry. :) artrefugium.blogspot.de/2015/0…

HB, 8B and mechanical pencil on DIN A4 (21 x 19,7 cm | 8 1/4" x 11 3/4") printer paper.

Was more of a sketch / study at first but I decided to finish it :D Finally something else than all these other portraits, I wanted to do something like this for a very long time already! :)
Partly inspired by songs from MandragorA ScreaM's album Luciferland.

Ah and I have to add - this is probably my first real "portrait" done without any reference, simply out of my head! :D A milestone for me.

Original drawing available at my Etsy shop

Prints available at my Society6 shop

... where was I?

Mon Jun 1, 2015, 11:18 AM

Hello :)

Wow, sorry I haven't been writing anything for such a long time again! I've been very busy the last ... let's say ... 6? weeks... at least.

So... where was I?

First thing was of course, ago 5 weeks, my amazing trip to italy to visit some truly wonderful people and good friends. We spent an awesome long weekend together and I wouldn't wanna miss a single second of it :) On more info about that weekend, please visit my blog, for it would be too much to write every detail here. :) I also think I caught that famous "italy-virus" all germans seem to have when I was there ... ^^;

The second thing keeping me busy then is having to translate looooads of material for my friends, and sleeping a lot. Yep, probably sleeping. And trying to not go nuts.

And besides that I have decided, since I got a loooot of inspiration down there in bella italia, that it's about time to move on as an artist and learn some new stuff. (Because I maybe somewhen in the future have a pretty unique opportunity... but I won't tell much about it yet since nothing is sure yet. ;) ) Like - how did that old master whoever he was paint these awesome 3D - murals at Palazzo Pitti in Florence? And I wanna try to learn how to do inverted drawings. :) Should I ever make it, you will see the results :)

So ... yeah and at the moment I have a lot of paper work and health stuff (I'm not sick, I'm just working on getting back on track mentally) going on so I almost get to do nothing artsy these days. Though I drag myself to do at least a bit every day. And besides THAT I still have to finish .. nah, at least 2 paintings for that Nightwish exhibition. And another commission waiting. So much to do, so little time.

And that's why I'll also vanish again, so much more to do! Take care and see you!

Welcome, visitor!

I'm a self-taught hobby fine-artist from Germany.

Creativity is my way to escape every-day life and let all the sorrow and pressure fade away for a few moments, a way to hide in my own little refuge.

With my art I try to create unique, magical pieces. Refuges for you to lose yourself in or where you can hide when you need it. All you need is to take the ride into my enchanted worlds.

My specialities are pencil portraits and acrylic paintings.
A side passion of mine is photography.
I also do have a pronounced fondness for everything bombastic, squiggly and detailed.

Please also visit my literature account:

If you have any questions, feel free to note or email me :)

(Please forgive the shitty layout, dA ruined my perfectly designed profile.)

"Fine art is the most powerful tool for impacting a culture that I can think of. Unlike virtually all other media including film, television, books, and music, fine art is not limited by the element of time. For example, it takes about eight hours to read the average book, a movie lasts two hours or less, and a song is over in mere minutes - but a painting invades the most private of human spaces, the home, and becomes a part of that person's life for the rest of their time on the planet. And while other reproduced forms of created works often end up on a shelf or in a music cabinet, a painting or print is enshrined, front and center within the home. It surrounds the activities that take place in the home, creates the background visuals for the rituals of daily living.

In the midst of continuous bombardment from the loud and constantly in motion imagery of our media culture, a painting is a still and silent messenger in the home - as compelling as a gentle whisper in a room full of shouting people. Further, paintings are time travelers, often handed down generation after generation long past the lifespan of the artist or the original owner."

(Thomas Kinkade)

"A refuge, or a sanctuary...
is a word which here means a small, safe place in a troubling world.
Like an oasis in a vast desert or an island in a stormy sea."

(Taken from Lemony Snicket's "Series of Unfortunate Events")

..."If you close your eyes, you can see the music". (Flashdance)
