Finished in a sudden attack of "wanna draw"...
Well... this time I chose to draw someone not so famous x) It's Daniel, good ol' friend of mine and former guitar player of local cover band "Mac Loud" (that sadly doesn't exist anymore, that's where I got to know him a long time ago.)

HB, 8B, HB mechanical pencil  and white gel pen on A4 Fabriano accademia 200g/m² paper.

this caught my attention at the first glance. i think it's absolutely great. i love how it looks like a B&W photograph rather than just a traditional painting. great attention to details and shading.
amazing work

I'm sorry but I did this of a private image of a friend of mine and find it better to be not made into something else (even if it's just a color version) :) I hope you understand. :)

incredibly detailed, it looks like a real photograph, I say you have to use several sets of pencils and pens, are the hours of effort you should have put him.

Wow, the detail in this is simply fantastic! You did an exceptional job with the the hair, it looks very realistic to me. I've always been somewhat terrible with hair so I love seeing how well others can draw it. I really love how you've made it look like he's actually got that sheen on his face and the details make him look very 3D. The angle from which you drew this seems like a particularly difficult challenge but you've executed it quite well. I like that you've made the guitar seem blurry as it gets closer to the viewer. The line on the top of his eyes seems a bit too dark, but maybe that's just me. Regardless, this is really good! Keep drawing! :D

Thank you !!! You know what? I'm also somebody that has incredible difficulties with drawing hair ... this picture made me almost go mad =_= Nowadays I found a new technique to draw hair that 1. goes much quicker and 2. looks better in my eyes x) (I'll do a tutorial on this someday.)
About the 3D - effect .. I think this also comes from the paper. I tested many papers but I got stuck with Fabriano Accademia and it serves me well until this day.

You're welcome :) I've heard hair is one of the hardest things to draw (I may or may not be misremembering that :P) so I'm not surprised other people have difficulties with it too, but at least you've made it look good here!
I really don't know much about different papers and drawing techniques or basically anything related to drawing... anytime I actually get as far as picking up a utensil and a piece of paper it's usually just a regular pencil and a blank piece of paper :P Regardless, this piece turned out very well!

Yeah hair is really the most difficult part in a portrait ... besides clothing >.<
I just had a look at the sketch in your gallery - you're on a good way! :)
Pencils also are also a matter of making something look realistic. They come in different grades, from 9H (very hard, mostly for technical drawings and stuff) to 9B (very soft, good for very dark shades & sketches). I found a grade scale for you here :) (There was this artist's toolbox journal entry a long time ago about all this but I failed to find it again =_=) There's also mechanical pencils to get which I use for fine and small details (especially in hair it's extremely helpful because you'd never get those fine lines with a normal pencil) For a soft, not sketchy effect I also work with paper stomps, q-tips and tissues for smudging. And if you use a kneaded eraser you can lift off some graphite from the picture when something has gotten too dark or you wanna make highlights. :)
Hope I was able to help a little :)
& thank you once more! :)

I've always found clothing easier than mouths/teeth. I hate drawing portraits for that reason alone ^^;
Thank you for taking a peek! I have more that I need to transfer over to this account but you can see them here if you're interested (it's fine if you're not :P): cranberry413.deviantart.com/ga…

Wow, thanks for all that information! I usually use just a regular #2 pencil or a mechanical pencil, depending on what I have and what I'm drawing. I will definitely look more into all this stuff, I really appreciate it :D

Yes, mouths and teeth are also damn hard to do >.<
Well from what I see there in your gallery you're on a damn good way! =) Don't hesitate to do darker shades too. It increases the contrast and makes the drawings look even more real. :)
I'm glad I was able to help =) Feel free to ask me whenever you need help =)

Thanks! :D I'll work on that more whenever I get around to drawing again (I can't seem to find the patience to sit down and draw something worthwhile.. Most everything I've drawn was for an art class so I was kind of forced to sit and draw for an hour a day ^^;)

Better draw when you feel like it then :D I'll do a "synchronous" portrait soon with a friend, teaching her how to draw =) Maybe I can convert this into some kind of tutorial ...

Great perspective. It's hard to get your proportions right when your subject is so unusual. Well done.
